Antonia is a senior researcher at Cenfri and became part of the team in April 2016. Since joining she has been responsible for the FinScope data analysis behind MAP Madagascar as well as supporting MAP DRC. She co-authored a study about the role of InsurTech in microinsurance and assisted the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) in their technology in insurance regulation guidelines. Antonia furthermore worked on a study around banks and mobile money account usage in South Africa and Zimbabwe. She is now involved in the thematic area of payments. Before Cenfri, she worked in Tzaneen, Limpopo, as a project manager for South Africa's largest pro-poor microfinance organisation, the Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF). Operating in the most rural and poorest areas of the country, she was in charge of SEF's financial education programme. She also led a pilot on the potential transformation from joint to individual liability and designed a Financial Diaries project together with the University of Johannesburg and Bankable Frontier Associates (BFA) to better understand the impact of credit on a client's life.

 

Antonia holds a master's degree in international trade, finance and development from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics, and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Birmingham. In addition to her native German, she speaks Spanish fluently.
