David Saunders caught up with Doubell Chamberlain, Cenfri’s managing director and soon to be chair of Board of the Microinsurance Network, to reflect on the 12th International Microinsurance Conference (IMC), his vision for the Network going forward. and where he believes microinsurance is headed.

Cenfri invited to attend ITU working group meetings

In September 2016, Barry Cooper and Massiwa Rusare from Cenfri joined the ITU’s working group meeting on digital financial services (DFS) in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania to review and enhance the recommendations made by them to date.   Cenfri’s interest in ITU work, arises from our MAP as well as work on measuring financial inclusion; and is based on the need to ensure the consumer or demand-side perspective informs global standards. The knock-on effect from this leads to better regulation and inclusion of financial services, and in turn enhances the livelihoods of ordinary citizens. Cenfri participated in all of the 4 working…

Harnessing the African cash economy: ATAF meeting in October 2016

In October 2016, Cenfri attended the Africa Tax Administration Forum (ATAF). ATAF is a membership driven African intergovernmental platform that focuses on improving the capacity of African tax administrations, advancing the role of taxation in African governance, and developing and supporting partnerships between African countries and development partners. Over 90 participants (including tax and revenue authorities from over 40 African countries) were invited to the event. , which combined an ATAF General Assembly with technical session on “Harnessing the African cash economy: Contributing towards expansion of the African tax base”.   Masiiwa Rusare presented on the prevalence of cash from…

Barclays Rise 24-hour Financial Inclusion Hackathon

A developer, a designer and a financial services practitioner walk into a room. Who’s holding the key to the next big idea in digital banking? None of them. But together they might just produce an idea that could eventually revolutionise the world of financial services.   With this hope, Barclays Rise, in collaboration with the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation, Thomson Reuters, IBM and Cenfri, hosted a 24-hour hackathon in Cape Town to foster ideation and prototyping in the financial services space.
