Barclays Rise 24-hour Financial Inclusion Hackathon

A developer, a designer and a financial services practitioner walk into a room. Who’s holding the key to the next big idea in digital banking? None of them. But together they might just produce an idea that could eventually revolutionise the world of financial services.   With this hope, Barclays Rise, in collaboration with the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation, Thomson Reuters, IBM and Cenfri, hosted a 24-hour hackathon in Cape Town to foster ideation and prototyping in the financial services space.

Presentation at 11th International Microinsurance Conferece: Understanding the opportunity for MSME insurance

In November 2015, Cenfri staff members attended the 11th International Microinsurance Conference hosted by the Munich Re Foundation and the Microinsurance Network in Casablanca, Morocco. At the conference Jeremy Gray presented evidence on the risk experience of SMMEs and their coping mechanisms from six MAP pilot countries. The presentation “Understanding the opportunity for MSME insurance” formed part of a panel discussion entitled “Servicing SMEs”

7th AFI Global Policy Forum, Maputo, Mozambique (Sept 2015)

In September 2015, Cenfri and insight2impact (i2i) team members participated in the 7th AFI Global Policy Forum in Maputo, Mozambique. The event was attended by over 450 senior financial inclusion policymakers and regulators, along with leaders from international organisations and the private sector. Herman Smit, interim lead of i2i, made an introductory presentation to the Alliance for Financial Inclusion Data Working Group (FIDWG) on the new i2i facility, which is jointly hosted between FinMark Trust and Cenfri to advance the impact of data in financial inclusion.

SADC Financial Inclusion Indaba (July 2015)

The SADC Secretariat, in partnership with the South African Treasury, SADC Banking Association and FinMark Trust, hosted the SADC Financial Inclusion Indaba, a regional workshop on Financial Inclusion, on the 23 and 24 July 2015 at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa. The purpose of the conference was to create a platform for public and private sector stakeholders across the SADC region to share their financial inclusion initiatives, learn from each other's experiences, and discuss local innovations and approaches to increase financial inclusion.
