SADC Financial Inclusion Indaba (July 2015)

The SADC Secretariat, in partnership with the South African Treasury, SADC Banking Association and FinMark Trust, hosted the SADC Financial Inclusion Indaba, a regional workshop on Financial Inclusion, on the 23 and 24 July 2015 at the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa. The purpose of the conference was to create a platform for public and private sector stakeholders across the SADC region to share their financial inclusion initiatives, learn from each other's experiences, and discuss local innovations and approaches to increase financial inclusion.

CGAP Measuring Market Development Learning Event (June 2015)

In June 2015, insight2impact (i2i) team members attended a learning event on Measuring Market Development hosted by the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) in Paris, France. The purpose of the event was to convene key stakeholders involved in financial inclusion market development programmes to assist them to better measure the impact of their work.   In market development programmes, funders take on a facilitative role to catalyse change. Location Matters: GIS in Financial Inclusion (July 2015)

Cenfri and FinMark Trust hosted a workshop for the FSD Network entitled Location Matters: GIS in Financial Inclusion on 22 and 23 July 2015. This two day workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa, focused on how Financial Sector Deepening Trusts (FSDs) and their partners can use geographic information systems (GIS) and geospatial data to better understand current challenges in financial inclusion. The workshop sessions brought together a number of participants and presenters from the private sector (financial institutions), international bodies such as the World Bank Group (WBG) and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), development organizations, and FSDs from across Africa. Convergence of communications and finance: ITU Digital Financial Services Focus Group

In December 2014 and June 2015, Cenfri attended workshops on Digital Financial Services and Financial Inclusion organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The events were hosted in Washington D.C and at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The workshops brought together a range of participants from the private sector, international standard-setting bodies, academia and development organisations. The insights gathered from the workshops set the context for the ITU-Digital Financial Services Focus Group (ITU FG-DFS) which provides a platform to develop and promote harmonised approaches, principles and tools to fast-track policies…
