13 June, 2025 •Cenfri is recruiting a Communications Generalist in Kigali to support our Rwanda Economy Digitalisation Programme. This multi-year initiative, implemented in partnership with the Rwandan Ministry of ICT and Innovation and the Mastercard Foundation, focuses on using data to inform decision-making, with a particular emphasis on evidence-informed policymaking. This is a fixed-term, full-time role (with a contract period until 30 April 2027).
As such, the position would suit someone who has an interest in data for development and a willingness to work closely with public- and private-sector decisionmakers.
Role summary
Cenfri is looking for a Communications Generalist who can:
- Provide direct support to the programme team and key programme partners in communicating the objectives of, and key insights from, the programme. This will involve writing articles, preparing social media posts, developing presentations, preparing interview questions and interviewing stakeholders, and directly interacting with key stakeholders
- Support key partners (particularly government ministries or public sector institutions) in internal communications around the objectives of the programme
- Organise events including conceptualising the agenda, liaising with speakers, inviting participants, managing logistics or service providers and communicating the outcome of these events
- Manage comms campaigns
- Upload relevant content to the Cenfri website and assist with broader website maintenance and knowledge/document management tasks
- Place articles with external media as required or liaise with media houses or radio stations for potential placement/appearances
- Market the programme or Cenfri as requested and ensure that outputs and collateral adhere to the Cenfri brand and style guidelines
- Keep abreast of programme achievements and learning so that impact and lessons can be shared
- Provide ad-hoc support to the Cenfri comms team or broader programme team as required
The Rwanda Economy Digitalisation Programme is currently supported by a communications team, which is based in Cape Town and the Communications Generalist would work closely with the Cape Town-based team.
Qualification, skills and experience requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- Currently living in Kigali (or a Rwandan citizen willing to relocate to Kigali at their own expense)
- More than four years’ experience in communications and stakeholder liaison
- Excellent verbal and written English and Kinyarwanda language skills
- Ability to translate technical or specialist content to accessible language
- Good attention to detail
- Proficient in MS Office including PowerPoint, in posting to social media, email marketing (e.g. Mailchimp) and basic web editing tools
