Guidance on developing a data and analytics strategy

Guidance on developing a data and analytics strategy

8 March, 2024

In today’s data-driven world, many organisations recognise the importance of leveraging data insights to make decisions. However, once they attempt to harness and use their internal data, it becomes clear that data is not standardised and is often housed in different siloes of the organisation.

Drawing from our experience in developing capacity within multiple institutions under the Rwanda Economy Digitalisation Programme, we have developed a learning note that introduces the fundamental components and stages of organisation-wide data strategies.

Here are key things to expect in the learning note:

  1. Definition of a data strategy: An exploration of what constitutes a data strategy and its significance in organisational success.
  2. Components of a data strategy and how it can be implemented: An overview of the essential elements that comprise a data strategy and the process of implementing it effectively.
  3. Organisational roles and teams’ responsibilities: Insight into the roles and responsibilities of various teams and stakeholders involved in executing a data strategy.
  4. Metrics to measure a successful data strategy: an overview of what a successful data strategy looks like for an organisation.

While there are important and generic steps; an effective data strategy is customised according to the institution’s objectives and capabilities and ever evolving to adapt to technological changes, market trends and business priorities.
