Diverse paths: Finance for women’s nano and micro enterprises

28 May, 2025

Women-led nano and micro enterprises (WNMEs) are central to local economies and household livelihoods, yet they remain underserved by mainstream financial systems.

This new CGAP report, Diverse Paths: Finance for Women’s Nano and Micro Enterprises, draws on research from India, Kenya, and Uganda to explore the structural and financial barriers WNMEs face and outlines practical, high impact solutions to address them.

A team from Cenfri led the coordination and data compilation for this research, which brings fresh insights on:

  • The distinct needs of livelihood versus growth-oriented enterprises

  • How informal networks can be strengthened and digitised

  • Why business support services, not just credit, are essential

  • The role of segmentation in shaping effective policy and product design

Read the report to understand how funders, policymakers and FSPs can enable more inclusive financial systems that meet women entrepreneurs where they are.
