Opportunity summary

In our quest to develop South African researchers for African development, Cenfri is seeking to offer a bursary to intellectually curious Masters students in 2024 who have a passion for real-world development.

Our bursary programme offers you:

  • Financial support for your studies (tuition and a monthly stipend)
  • A dedicated mentor to guide you through the academic year
  • The opportunity to gain work experience while studying, through at least six weeks of paid internship time onsite at Cenfri’s offices in Durbanville and through remote work
  • Good prospects to join our team of research analysts full-time after graduation and on successful completion of the programme

You’ll do exciting applied analysis, engage with key stakeholders and play a role in achieving real-world impact and contributing to the fundamentals of welfare-enhancing digitalised economies.

Do you have what it takes?

Requirements

  • Being on track to enter a one-year, or your final year of a Masters-level qualification in economics or related fields
  • A strong interest in research-related activities and a passion for development
  • An overall GPA of 65% or higher, in the current or most recent academic year of enrolment at a higher education institution
  • Good writing and presentation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced English language skills (verbal and written)
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Good quantitative and analytical skills
  • Knowledge of Stata and the analysis of household survey data (advantageous)

Our Diversity Bursary opportunity is strictly open to Employment Equity candidates who can verify their need for financial support and who are South African citizens. In order to fully take advantage of the workplace experience, mentorship and company experience, students based in Cape Town are preferable. Shortlisted candidates will participate in a panel interview, technical-ability assessments and psychometric assessments.
