Pieter Janse van Vuuren


Pieter is an Associate in Cenfri’s data team. As part of the Rwanda Economy Digitalisation (RED) Programme he leads agriculture research to support the Rwandan government develop evidence-based and inclusive policies to reduce poverty and digitalise the Rwandan economy.

Pieter initially joined Cenfri’s Risk team in February 2018 and his work focused on the role of insurance in supporting economic growth. He undertook research on insurance in Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda. He has also provided research support for projects in Zambia and Ethiopia. As his interest in data grew, he assisted in developing Cenfri’s database of African Digital Platforms and updating our Insurtech Tracker.

Prior to Cenfri, he worked as an economic analyst at GreenCape. He provided economic support, insight and analysis on many projects, particularly those focusing on agriculture and agri-processing.

As a father of two young children, Pieter doesn’t have much free time but hopes to get back to competitive ultimate frisbee soon and in the interim enjoys reading and DIY.
